Pelletizing
Pelletizing is done in plants when the feed needs to be a compact, homogeneous and easily administered product. The decision to process the floury mixture into pellets depends on the type of animal for which the feed is intended: in some cases pellets are essential to facilitate ingestion, reduce waste and ensure a regular, balanced nutritional intake.
The process is divided into several stages: the mixture is first conditioned with steam, so as to increase temperature and moisture and to activate starch gelatinization and cohesion between particles. Next, the material is compressed through a die into a cylindrical shape, resulting in pellets of varying diameters, depending on production needs. After pressing, the product is cooled to stabilize its physical structure and allow for proper storage.
Cimas includes pelletizing presses in its plants supplied by highly specialized Italian manufacturers, chosen for their mechanical strength, operational reliability and processing precision. The company considers the exclusive use of Made in Italy technology to be a guarantee of quality, continuity and compatibility with European regulations in the zootechnical-industrial field.
